**As Captain** Responsible for the safe conduct of the flight from the moment you accept the aircraft until you hand it over: the safety of everyone and everything on board, authority over all persons on board, and compliance with the law of every state overflown and with the Operations Manual. In practice that means accepting or rejecting the aircraft against the MEL and CDL, satisfying yourself on fuel, weather, weight and balance and the technical log, deciding whether to depart, divert or continue, exercising commander's discretion on FTL when circumstances require it and reporting it, and filing the occurrence, ASR and voyage reports afterwards. Your authority is absolute in flight and your accountability is personal. This is the operational hat and it reports through the DFO. **As Training Manager (Nominated Person Crew Training, AUA-OPS 1.175(i))** Accountable for the training system rather than for any individual flight: establishing the ground and flight training programme so crews are trained for their assigned duties, publishing and maintaining OM-D, setting and promulgating the standards and piloting techniques crews must demonstrate at checks, owning the syllabi and check forms with the DFO, appointing and standardising the instructors, examiners and evaluators so the standard is common across them, ensuring training and checks happen in due time with crew planning, maintaining the training records and the OPS 1.1065 summary, overseeing the providers (PanAm, CPaT, Dynamic, Scandlearn), and feeding the operation's experience back into extra training or procedure changes. The AM approves policy, programme and examiner nominations; you are accountable for delivery.
