I work as a Captain, Check Airman and Director of Safety at Burgess Aircraft Management flying the Cessna Citation CJ2, CJ2+, CJ3+, Sovereign and Challenger 300. As part of my role as Director of Safety, I implemented a full SMS program into our company under the FAA SMSVP which was FAA approved in September 2023. This implementation required the writing of an SMS Manual and an ERP Manual along with meeting all the DCT requirements outlined in the SMSVP. In our SMS program, we utilized the WBAT software platform, and we have also implemented ASAP as part of our safety program. When the FAA mandated an SMS for all Part 135 operations, our SMS program was re-evaluated and accepted again by the FAA. Aviation safety is both a personal and professional passion for me. I have the unique situation of being both the Director of Safety while still working as a line pilot, which means that when I fly, I have to follow the safety procedures and protocols I implement in my safety role. This allows me to be intimately aware of the positive and negative impacts of safety changes in flight operations, and it also puts me in the "hot seat" of ensuring that I practice what I preach. From an aviation software perspective, I am very proficient in APG Genesis, Foreflight, Universal FMS, Rockwell Collins FMS-3000, ProLine 21, Garmin G3000, Garmin 430/530, JetInsight, WBAT, and FltPlan.com.
