Position Overview
The Second-in-Command (SIC) supports the Pilot-in-Command (PIC) in all aspects of flight operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and professional execution of every mission. The SIC is expected to maintain the highest standards of airmanship, crew resource management, customer service, and operational awareness. This role requires a pilot who is organized, adaptable, calm under pressure, and committed to mastering the 560XL platform.
This position is ideal for a motivated aviator seeking structured growth while operating as part of a tight-knit flight department.
Primary Responsibilities
Flight Operations & Safety
Assist the PIC in all phases of flight planning, execution, and post-flight duties.
Adhere to all FAA regulations, company SOPs, and aircraft limitations.
Demonstrate disciplined CRM, situational awareness, and decision-making.
Maintain a high-level understanding of aircraft systems, performance, and limitations.
Participate fully in safety programs, recurrent training, and event reviews.
Preflight / Postflight Duties
Conduct thorough preflight inspections and ensure aircraft readiness.
Assist with weight & balance, performance calculations, ATC flight planning, ForeFlight usage, and log entries.
Support pre-departure and arrival coordination, including communicating with FBOs, handling, and ground services.
Complete postflight documentation, aircraft cleaning, cabin reset, and securing the aircraft.
Customer & Crew Experience
Deliver a courteous, professional, discreet, and service-oriented passenger experience.
Maintain exceptional cockpit resource management and communication with the PIC.
Serve as a positive representative of SSK in all interactions with passengers, vendors, and partners.
Aircraft Care & Department Support
Assist with maintaining aircraft supplies, restocking, and cleanliness.
Support maintenance tracking, discrepancies reporting, and vendor coordination.
Participate in organizational improvement, procedural development, and ongoing team initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
FAA Commercial Multi-Engine Land (AMEL)
First-Class Medical
Instrument Rating
1,000 hours total time (preferred; flexible for exceptional candidates)
Strong knowledge of Part 91 operations
Valid passport and ability to support international operations (Bahamas, Caribbean, Canada)
Strong communication, CRM, and professionalism
No accidents, incidents, or FAA violations
Must live within one hour driving distance of KCGF
This is a non-commutable position
Preferred Qualifications
CE-560XL type rating (not required; training may be provided for the right candidate)
250+ hours multi-engine
100+ hours turbine
Experience in corporate / business aviation
Strong system knowledge and technical aptitude
Experience with ForeFlight, Garmin avionics, and standard Citation procedures
Maintenance / vendor coordination experience is a plus
Strong work ethic and “team-first” mindset
Schedule & Expectations
Approximately 150 flight hours per year
Average overnight travel: 75 nights per year
Duty days typically 3–5 hours of flight-related activity
Flexibility required for business travel
Professional appearance, punctuality, and reliability expected for all trips
