About the Work Unit
The mission of the Colorado State Patrol is, “By adhering to our core values, we provide modern policing services for all persons to protect life, peace, and property throughout Colorado”. This work unit exists to provide law enforcement flight operations for the Colorado State Patrol and passenger flight operations for the State of Colorado. This includes transportation for the Governor and staff, department heads and staff from various state agencies, and law enforcement flights which include traffic enforcement and search support.

About the Job
This position operates CSP Aircraft in accordance with two categories of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), Part 91, and Public Aircraft Operations (PAO). This position requires the following Federal Aviation Administration ratings:
Commercial Pilot
Airplane Single and Multi-Engine Land and Instrument Pilot
Certified Flight Instructor
This position must complete the following duties as a pilot; maintain required pilot ratings, maintain pilot records ensuring accuracy per Federal Aviation Regulations, establish and maintain the unit’s operational hazard report program, maintain aviation life support equipment, investigate aircraft incidents and develop operational procedures to mitigate aviation hazards through training and safety procedures, create enforcement schedules, schedule flights for customers and file flight plans, and assist the unit mechanic with user level maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Piloting Unit Aircraft
Prepares for flight and flies Cessna 182, Pilatus PC12, and King Air 200 in VFR and IFR conditions. These flights are operated in accordance with FAR Part 91, CSP Aircraft Operations Manual, and Colorado State Patrol Policy. Provides appropriate customer service during all phases of flight operations.
Maintain Flying Skills
Maintain flying skills pertaining to low level, low speed, mountainous terrain, meteorology, high altitude and IFR flight in IMC conditions. Skills maintained by study, seminars, practice, check flights, and exams pertaining to FAR, Aircraft Section Operations Manual, and Colorado State Patrol policy, to ensure the safety of passengers and the public at large.
General Operations
Maintain hangar, aircraft and those components associated with the aircraft as prescribed by the FAR. Purchase fuel, oil, and other items for the proper maintenance and operation of the aircraft.
User Level Maintenance of Aircraft and Records Maintenance
Ensures the correct user-level maintenance of aircraft and records of maintenance of aircraft as prescribed the the FAR.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
NOTE: To be considered for this position, you must meet one of the following options for consideration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE)
Current, valid certification as a commercial pilot.
Certificate MUST be submitted at the time of application.
AND
One thousand (1000) hours of logged pilot-in-command (PIC) flying time, which must include at least five hundred hours of logged mountain flying experience.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Must be qualified as the pilot in of complex aircraft such as the Beachcraft King Air B200 or Pilatus PC-12
Requirements
Commercial Pilot certification
Airplane Single and Multi-Engine Land and Instrument Pilot
Certified Flight Instructor
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
3000 or more hours of total time.
1200 or more hours as a pilot in command.
500 hours or more of multi engine time.
Certificates - Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) License, Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument (CFII), Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI).
Operational Experience - Part 135, Part 121, Mountain Flying, Cold Weather Flying
Avionics experience with Garmin G1000 and or Honeywell Primus Apex
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must be Colorado resident at the time of application.
Current valid driver's license at time of hire, and must obtain a Colorado-issued driver's license within 6 months of hire. May be required to operate a state vehicle and machinery to complete job tasks.
Requires successful completion of a background investigation that includes a polygraph exam, psychological exam, driving history, a fingerprint based criminal history search and drug testing.
