The Chief Pilot is responsible for the professional standards of the flight crews and the safe, compliant, and efficient conduct of flight operations. This role oversees and enforces regulatory requirements, company policies, and Safety Management System (SMS) standards while fostering a culture of operational excellence. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as the primary authority responsible for the supervision and professional conduct of flight crews
Exercise Operational Control and ensure flight operations meet or exceed FAA, DOT, and company standards
Act as a liaison between flight crews and senior leadership to ensure compliance with internal policies and federal regulations
Ensure full compliance with 14 CFR § 119.71 or hold an approved FAA waiver
Monitor and enforce participation in [Company]'s Safety Management System (SMS)
Maintain oversight of the Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) program and ensure currency of all materials
Issue operational directives, bulletins, and notices to flight crews as required
Review and distribute incident, accident, and crew reports and initiate corrective actions where necessary
Coordinate with the Director of Operations to ensure operations align with the General Operations Manual and Operations Specifications
Ensure availability and access to current aeronautical publications, company manuals, and applicable regulations for all flight personnel
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Position Requirements
Education:
Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
FAA pilot certificate with commercial, instrument, and aircraft-specific type ratings
Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate preferred
Valid U.S. passport
FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit
Valid FAA Class I Medical Certificate
Flight Time
Minimum 2,000 hours Pilot in Command (PIC)
Minimum 3,000 hours total flight time
Chief Pilot Experience Requirement (Per 14 CFR § 119.71):
If first-time Chief Pilot: Minimum 3 years as PIC in the past 6 years under Part 121 or 135
If previously served as Chief Pilot: Minimum 3 years as PIC under Part 121 or 135
Skills and Abilities
Strong leadership and communication skills
Ability to make operational decisions quickly and effectively
Knowledge of SMS principles and risk management
Ability to foster a positive, safety-driven team culture
Proficient in Microsoft Office and aviation-specific digital systems
