We are seeking a highly accomplished Vice President of Safety to build, lead, and scale our safety organization. This key leadership role will be responsible for setting a strategic vision for safety across all operations and instilling a proactive safety culture throughout the company. The VP of Safety will serve as the primary executive liaison with industry associations and internal stakeholders to maintain the highest safety standards in the industry.
This is a critical, highly visible leadership role that requires proven expertise in aviation safety, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to build consensus across a diverse, fast-growing organization. This position will require you to work in the Corporate Headquarters office located in Overland Park, KS. This is not a remote or hybrid role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Strategic Leadership
Develop and execute the company’s long-term safety strategy aligned with operational growth and global operations
Lead the buildout of a dedicated safety team, including structure, roles, and responsibilities
Drive a company-wide safety culture through proactive communication, training, and accountability
Operational Oversight
Oversee the Safety Management Systems (SMS) and safety culture to include IEP, ASAP, Employee Safety Report, aviation safety, human factor, and risk analysis, ensuring integration across all functions
Serve as the executive lead for emergency response planning, facilitating internal and external audits, investigations, and corrective action programs
Oversight of change management and risk control
Oversee company-based representatives
Team Building & Development
Mentor and develop safety personnel and scale the team as the business grows
Partner with Flight Operations, Maintenance, Training, and HR to align safety initiatives with daily operations
External Engagement
Act as the company’s safety representative to the FAA, NTSB, ICAO, OSHA, and industry bodies (e.g., NBAA, IS-BAO)
Monitor and proactively position the company as a leader in safety practices
Qualified candidates are required to have 15+ years in Aviation with at least 5 years of progressive leadership experience in aviation safety, including executive-level responsibility.
Deep expertise in FAA Part 135/91K/91 operations and familiarity with international safety regulations
Proven success building and leading high-performing safety teams in a large, complex aviation environment
Strong understanding of SMS, ASAP, FOQA, LOSA, and other safety programs
Exceptional communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Safety Management, or related field preferred
Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate or advanced aviation credentials strongly preferred
