The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting for an Aircraft Pilot 2 located in Kodiak & Chignik!
This is a multi-location position. Filled in Kodiak during the off season and filled in Chignik/Alaska Peninsula May through September during the busy season.
Kodiak Pay = $53.16/Hourly
Chignik Pay = $71.84/Hourly
What you will be doing:
Pilots state owned multi-engine and single-engine fixed wing aircraft on wheels and floats transporting departmental staff and supplies to support programmatic operations and/or enforcement missions. Duties include safe transportation of departmental staff to and from field camps and low altitude flights in support of stream enumeration, fish surveys, and oversight of fishing fleet activities. This position requires highly specialized flying; frequently operating out of unimproved landing strips, beaches, lakes and lagoons in unpredictable weather and over hazardous terrain. This position serves as the lead pilot for regional operations, establishing task priorities and assigning work. The off season is in Kodiak from approximately September through April and in Chignik for the summer field season approximately May through August and possibly through September. Off-season duties include maintenance, repair, alteration, and annual inspections of five Commercial Fisheries aircraft based in Kodiak. Maintains aviation maintenance and service records for each aircraft according to FAA and department standards. Serves as custodian for regional aircraft and maintenance/hangar facility and maintains a comprehensive inventory of aircraft parts, support and service equipment. Assists in the management of aircraft operational and maintenance budgets.

The working conditions you can expect:
This position is in Kodiak from approximately September through April and on the Alaska Peninsula from May through August and sometimes September. Pilot housing is provided at Sand Point, Chignik and Cold Bay at no cost. This position will initially be based in Chignik with opportunities to relocate to Sand Point or Cold Bay as the mission need arises.
Who we are looking for:
Highly desired due to remote operations: Airframe and power plant mechanics license (FAA), and Inspection Authorization License (FAA). Flight Instructor Certificate is highly preferred, as this position conducts check-rides and training for subordinate pilot(s). Must be self-motivating, capable of working both independently and cooperatively with area management biologists in stablishing and scheduling flight priorities.

Special Note:
A valid driver's license is required.
This position may be in possession of, or have access to, firearms/ammunition.
Multi-engine and single engine commercial pilot certificate, instrument pilot rating, single engine sea rating (required for regional operation of existing float plane). A total of 1,500 hours flying aircraft which includes 500 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) fixed wing aircraft and 500 hours as PIC of a fixed wing multi-engine aircraft. Of this required flight time, 250 hours as PIC must be Alaska time (100 hours of which were logged within the 12 months prior to employment.)
CPR/First Aid Training, and a Medical Certificate will be required as a condition of employment.
Highly desired due to remote operations: Airframe and power plant mechanics license (FAA), and Inspection Authorization License (FAA). It is important to note that regional operations base this pilot in remote locations during field season where emergency repairs may be necessary and where no licensed aircraft mechanic is available. Flight Instructor Certificate is highly preferred, as this position conducts check-rides and training for subordinate pilot(s).
Ability to carry and operate firearms. Firearms are required as standard aircraft emergency survival gear primarily for bear encounters/safety.
Current FAA Licensure and class of Medical Certification as a Commercial Pilot or Airline Transport Pilot with ratings, including operating under instrument flight rules, appropriate to the category, class, and type of aircraft flown and directed by the position;
AND
Applicable hours as PIC of appropriate category and class of aircraft predominantly flown and directed by the position that includes 100 minimum hours of flight time in Alaska within the previous 18 months.
Special Note:
As part of the examination process, the employing department will require successful completion of a flight check and approval from a certified flight instructor in the make and model of craft to be flown.
