Reporting to the Senior Manager, Dispatch, the Chief Duty Dispatcher will be responsible for the day of operations and Duty Dispatchers on shift. The Chief Duty Dispatcher acts as a liaison officer between internal and external stakeholders and provides supervision and guidance for Dispatchers on shift.
Primary Responsibilities:
The duties of the Chief Duty Dispatcher include:
Examine available weather data and resources for major weather events that may impact the operation. Provide relevant information to all internal stakeholders so that informed decisions and resource planning can be accomplished. Provide timely updates to all relevant stakeholders
Review Captain Reports, and respond to any that relate to Dispatch. Provide feedback as required, or suggest procedural changes that would provide solutions. Highlight to the SMD if issues need to be addressed with a specific dispatcher
Review the planned number of flights for the week ahead and adjust to ensure that the workload between desks is even. For ‘day off’ operations adjust the workload if a desk workload becomes unmanageable due to a specific event
Coordinate on all levels with ATC. This includes any special telecons due to weather or another event. Relay all relevant information to the duty Dispatchers
Provide supervision and guidance to the dispatchers on shift with any technical, or operational issues
Ensure quality and compliance with CARs regulations for all aspects of Flight Planning and Flight Watch
Provide technical direction to Duty Officers, Chief Pilot or his designate, and any other department that requires
Call out over time due to sickness, and make changes to the roster accordingly
Assist duty, Dispatcher, if the workload becomes unmanageable
Investigate SMSs and provide feedback to the relevant stakeholders
Follow up on fuel issue tracking
Follow up on OTP issues related to Dispatch, and provide feedback
Monitor and update Route Briefing Notes to ensure that the content remains accurate and relevant
Review and follow up on NVB tickets
Update aircraft configuration when performance-limiting MELs are applied
Create CO NOTAMS as required
Assist with new destinations set up and testing
Any other duties as assigned by the SMD
Activate Dispatch ERP if required
Collaborate with the Chief Dispatcher Training regarding ongoing training initiatives and development
Qualifications & Requirements:

Education:
High School or GED equivalent
Valid Flight Dispatcher Certificate as defined by CARs
Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years direct experience as a Flight Dispatcher in a CARS 705 environment with a Type A or Type B operational control system or equivalent
Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership position is preferred
Demonstrated good working knowledge of general computer and software applications; particularly MS Outlook, Word, and Excel
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) is essential.
Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
Flexibility and adaptability to handle diverse responsibilities
