About the Position
This position is with the MS Bureau of Narcotics (MBN) in HINDS COUNTY. This is a professional position that involves piloting aircraft used for state business. Jobs at this level perform standardized pre-flight and post-flight inspections of aircraft, engines, and any other equipment installed on the aircraft, as well as pilot-in-command duties. Employees are responsible for ensuring the airworthiness of aircraft before each flight through the performance of pre-flight inspection and research of flight history. Some additional duties and responsibilities will be included, but are not limited to the following:
Conducting thorough pre-flight inspections to ensure the aircraft is safe for travel.
Creating a flight plan, considering factors like weather conditions and fuel requirements.
Navigating the aircraft by using cockpit instruments and visual references.
Monitoring engine operation, fuel consumption, and functioning of aircraft systems during flight.
Responding effectively to emergencies, including unforeseen weather events or system failures.
Maintaining a detailed record of the flight log and any maintenance or repair activities.
Remaining updated on FAA regulations and guidelines
Undergoing regular medical and proficiency examinations to maintain a pilot’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree and the incumbent must hold a First-Class Medical initially and a Second-Class Medical thereafter; 2,500 hours rotorcraft time, 1,000 hours pilot-in-command multi-engine turbine time, 300 hours instrument time. Applicant must attach a copy of his/her valid Federal Aviation Administration Air Transport Pilot License, and a valid First-Class Medical Certificate. The pilot’s flight logbook must be available and subject to verification.
