ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.
Serves as Pilot-in-Command and Second-in-Command of single and multi-engine, turbine, jet-powered aircraft in support of transportation needs for the State of Wyoming
Flies photogrammetric equipped aircraft on designated flight tracks, and provides flight personnel support for the state photogrammetry and surveys mission
Operates aircraft in multi-air traffic environments, in complex airspaces, in varying weather conditions, in the day, and at night
Develops and flies flight profiles that meet the fuel efficiency goals of the department
Files flight plans, records flight data, coordinates passenger loading, and prepares weight/balance records
Updates flight/aircraft publications and databases, flight manuals, and software of aircraft flight management systems
Maintains fitness for flight status, availability, and readiness during wait periods and times of unassigned flights
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to candidates with an ATP License and CE-500 type rating, 2000 hours of fixed-wing aircraft time, 1000 hours flying as a pilot-in-command, and a first-class medical certificate.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge and piloting experience to safely operate a single-engine and multi-engine turbine jet airplane in complex airspaces and varying weather conditions
Knowledge of the principles and concepts of aviation and flight operation, safety, and risk management
Knowledge of how to interact with other personnel to assist in smoothly operating the flight department
Knowledge of IFR/VFR rules and regulations and how to apply them to flight planning
Knowledge of professional aviation publications, to include Federal Aviation Regulations, Aeronautical Information Manual, Air Traffic Control procedures, and state policies

Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Piloting)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Pilot's License consisting of a commercial certificate with instrument rating for airplane (single and multi-engine rating) with 2000 hours total flying time, 1000 hours fixed-wing aircraft time, 750 hours flying as pilot-in-command, 250 hours flying multi-engine airplane, 100 hours of night flying and 100 hours of actual or simulated instrument flying of which 50 hours must be in actual flight and have a first class Medical Certificate.

Education & Experience Substitution:
3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Piloting)

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
7 days a week availability.
Annual flight time 200-300 hours.

One year of service to WYDOT must be completed, failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, and funds will be recouped from final pay.
Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
