The Director of Technical Services serves as [Company] Aviation’s FAA-designated Director of Maintenance (DOM) under 14 CFR 119.65. This executive role is accountable for the airworthiness and proper maintenance of all aircraft operated under the company’s Part 135 certificate. The Director establishes company maintenance policies, oversees technical services, and leads the service side of the maintenance oversight organization.
The Director of Technical Services / DOM plays a critical role in maintaining the airworthiness of the company’s aircraft and collaborates closely with the Director of Operations (DO) to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant flight operations
Location: Van Nuys, CA
Compensation: $260,000.00 – $310,000.00; Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits available.
Duties and Responsibilities
Regulatory Accountability
Serves as the FAA-required Director of Maintenance.
Ensures all aircraft are maintained in an airworthy condition in compliance with FARs, manufacturer requirements, and company manuals.
Signs and maintains the General Maintenance Manual (GMM), Continuing Analysis and
Surveillance System (CASS), and other required technical programs.
Reports directly to the Director of Operations (DO) in accordance with Part 119 requirements.
Policy & Technical Services Leadership
Develops and maintains company maintenance standards, policies, and technical procedures.
Provides leadership to the Manager of Maintenance Services and team of Aircraft Maintenance Managers (AMMs).
Ensures alignment with centralized planning, budgeting, and compliance functions.
Partners with the Chief Inspector to maintain independence between QA/compliance oversight and service delivery.
Maintenance Oversight
Oversees scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, and AOG events across the managed fleet.
Ensures accuracy and integrity of technical records in coordination with the Chief Inspector and Records team.
Provides release authority and ensures consistency of daily aircraft release processes.
Reviews and approves conformity inspections, major repairs, and modifications.
Vendor & Program Management
Approves and monitors maintenance vendors, repair stations, and program providers.
Oversees warranty, training, and program enrollments (engines, parts, avionics).
Ensures vendor compliance with FAA and company standards.
Strategic Leadership
Develops long-term strategies for scaling technical services in alignment with fleet growth.
Implements process improvements, automation, and best practices to increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
Partners with VP Flight Services, ACM leadership, and Flight Operations to ensure seamless owner experience.
External Interface
Acts as primary FAA contact for maintenance functions, in coordination with the Chief Inspector.
Represents the company in IS-BAO, Wyvern, ARGUS, and third-party audits.
Builds strong relationships with regulators, repair stations, and industry peers.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Leads the Manager of Maintenance Services, Aircraft Maintenance Managers, and technical vendor oversight.
Works in close partnership with the Chief Inspector to balance service and compliance responsibilities.
Required Education and Experience
A current FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate is required: IA preferred.
A minimum 5 years of business aviation maintenance leadership, including Part 135 oversight is required.
A proven track record with FAA interaction, audits, and corrective action management.
Demonstrated expertise in MEL programs, RTS authority, and manual development.
Strong leadership skills to build and mentor compliance-focused teams.
Strong communication and leadership skills with ability to manage both owner-facing service delivery and technical compliance.
