Summary:
The Director of Safety (DOS) develops and manages safety, the Safety Management System, and OSHA programs, including the identification of trends, hazard mitigation procedures, and oversight of safety programs for all locations. The DOS also provides the VP of Safety and Security with initiatives to minimize the risks within the Company for all aspects of flight and ground safety.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Reports the performance of the SMS to the VP of Safety and Security at 6-week intervals, or more often, as needed.
- Create, implement, and maintain the Company’s Safety Management System, standards, manuals, and programs.
- Assist and support all departments in complying with Company safety standards.
- Appoint, train and support Base Safety Managers at all Company locations.
- Conduct quarterly meetings with Base Safety Managers.
- Coordinate and organize Safety Committee meetings and maintain Safety Committee records.
- Follow up on all action items resulting from Committee meetings.
- Provide consultation, guidance and technical assistance on matters related to workplace safety and security – monitor Base OSHA compliance.
- Facilitate hazard identification and risk management. Maintain a company Risk Assessment matrix to establish safe levels of risk
- Evaluate employee suggestions for safety and recommended action and take appropriate action for submitted hazards and recommendations.
- Advise of proper record keeping requirements for all safety-related documents.
- Assist departments in establishing safety standards and developing controls or work processes specific to departmental operations to minimize or eliminate hazards.
- Manage Base safety inspections and ensure adequate training in safety matters for the GSOC and bases.
- Assist the VP of Safety and Security in implementing the company emergency programs (Emergency Response, Business Recovery, and base Emergency Action Programs).
- Serve as alternate liaison to the National Transportation Safety Board for Aircraft accidents and incidents as necessary.
- Coordinate all safety activities and act as the direct liaison between [Company] and external auditors, the NATA and NBAA for safety functions.
- Monitoring safety concerns in the aviation industry and their perceived impact on [Company] operations.
- Develop and maintain a Vendor Standard for off-fleet charter operators providing flights for [Company] clients.
- Schedule, direct and review audits of outsourced charter vendors and make recommendations on the use of said vendors.
- Management of aviation safety programs such as the company’s Safety Summit, Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) program, Line Operations Safety Audit (LOSA), Fatigue Risk Management Program and other safety initiatives.
- Perform data analysis and trending of flight hazards and recommend safety improvements for all flight operations.
- Manage and coordinate risk management and reduction strategies within the organization on a regular and ongoing basis
- Manage and coordinate the investigation of Company incident, accident, and irregular operations
- Work with local and onsite governmental entities to include the FAA, DOT, and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) when required.
- Attend and represent the Company at industry and safety related functions/seminars as directed by the VP of Safety.
- Serve on the Company’s Safety Committee.
- Provide consultation, guidance and technical assistance on matters related to workplace safety and security.
- Develop, implement, and update all safety programs.
- Assist each department in establishing standards and developing controls or work processes specific to departmental operations to minimize risks and eliminate hazards.
- Develop and manage safety and risk related training.
- Manage the Company’s Emergency Response Program and training.
- Manage hazardous material training and required reports.
- Regular and predictable on-site attendance in Omaha at the GSOC.
