Job Description:
This position is directly responsible for the day-to-day operations of flight training groups.
Essential Functions:
Maintains the quality of flight training.
Maintains the training standards as predicated by both FAA and [Company] Flight Academy.
Ensures that the policies and procedures of the Operations Manual are maintained.
Initiates corrective action, where necessary, for observed deviations from FAA regulation or Academy Policy.
Reviews student performance with the assigned instructor and implements additional training/tasks to achieve desired learning outcomes.
Serves as academic advisor to students within the assigned flight training program.
Approves student time off requests in accordance with the Operations Manual policies.
Reports weekly to the Student Progress Monitoring Council (SPMC) on student training progress and corrective action taken.
Ensures that all Group goals are met (e.g. pass rate, student time-to-train, adhering to program equipment hours, student's training records completed on time) and if not, makes recommendations to the Manager of Flight Training and/or Chief Flight Instructor for corrective action to be taken.
Recommends continuing education topics to Manager of Flight Training and/or Manager of Flight Standards.
Ensures the quality and completeness of student training records including review of training history.
Maintains the even distribution of student assignments within the group(s).
Identifies the need for additional aircraft qualifications within the instructor group based on instructor-to-student ratio.
Conducts monthly review and quarterly, formal evaluations of instructor performance.
Approves instructor time off requests based on availability and ensures accuracy of timecards for direct reports.
Assists Academy leadership in cadet or CFI selection.
Forward any problems, including student-training difficulties, to the Manager of Flight Training and/or Chief Flight Instructor for guidance and/or resolution.
Performs additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
Associates degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
2-4 years of flight training experience as a Certificated Flight Instructor
CFI (CFI-I preferred)
Minimum 1 year Management/Leadership Experience
Flight training experience, acquired as a certificated flight instructor, consisting of at least:
1 year and a total of 250 hours
Flight Experience:
At least 500 hours pilot in command
50 hours actual or simulated instrument conditions
14 CFR Part 141 Check Qualified or ability to become check qualified
