Role Overview
The Chief of Aircraft Maintenance is responsible for the complete maintenance oversight of a Gulfstream G550 and Bombardier Challenger 3500 operating under Part 91. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both strategic oversight and technical execution. The position requires residency within one hour of Monterey Regional Airport to ensure rapid response capability.
Key Responsibilities
Aircraft Maintenance Leadership
· Oversee all maintenance, inspection, repair, and modification activities
· Ensure aircraft airworthiness, safety, and compliance with FAA regulations
· Maintain strict adherence to manufacturer specifications and maintenance programs
Operational Readiness
· Perform and oversee pre-flight and post-flight inspections
· Be available to support arrivals, departures, and mission-critical events as required
· Coordinate and dispatch OEM or service provider AOG teams domestically and internationally
Regulatory Compliance
· Maintain compliance with FAA Part 91 and applicable regulatory requirements
· Manage all maintenance tracking systems (CMP/CAMP or equivalent)
· Ensure complete and accurate documentation, logs, and airworthiness directives
Budget & Vendor Management
· Develop and manage annual maintenance budgets
· Control costs while maintaining safety and operational standards
· Oversee procurement, inventory control, and vendor relationships
Technical Oversight
· Supervise troubleshooting and repairs of advanced engine, hydraulic, and avionics systems
· Review maintenance data to identify trends and implement safety improvements
Communication & Reporting
· Provide real-time reporting to the Aviation Manager and Director of Operations Collaborate with flight crews, OEM technical support, and AOG teams
· Participate in planning discussions related to fleet growth or operational enhancements
Required Qualifications
· FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License (Required)
· FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) (Preferred)
· Minimum 15 years of turbojet aircraft maintenance experience
· Minimum 3 years of direct Gulfstream 450/550/650 large-cabin experience
· Experience supporting Bombardier Challenger 3500 or similar aircraft (Preferred)
· Strong knowledge of FAA regulations, CAMP/CMP programs, and OEM manuals
· Experience managing maintenance budgets and schedules
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital maintenance tracking systems
