As BizJets’ wellness coach, I understand the unique challenges you face while flying frequently. Whether you’re a pilot, flight attendant, or even as a frequent traveler, staying hydrated is essential for your health and well-being. The airplane cabins can lead to various health issues, such as dry skin, fatigue, and headaches. Let’s explore some practical tips to help you stay hydrated in the air.

1. Drink Plenty of Water

I know it’s easy to forget to drink water when you’re busy or in the air, but staying hydrated is crucial. Aim to drink at least 8 ounces of water for every hour you are in the air. Remember, your body needs it to function at its best.

2. Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine

While it might be tempting to have a cup of coffee to stay alert or a glass of wine when you are off duty to relax, alcohol and caffeinated beverages can contribute to dehydration. They act as diuretics, causing your body to lose more water. If you do indulge, try to balance it by drinking extra water to stay hydrated.

3. Eat Hydrating Foods

Including hydrating foods in your diet before and during your flight can make a big difference. Fruits and vegetables like cucumbers, watermelon, oranges, and strawberries have high water content and can help keep you hydrated. These are easy to pack and can be a refreshing snack while you’re on the go.

4. Use a Hydrating Mist

Cabin air can dry out your skin, making you feel even more dehydrated. Carrying a small bottle of hydrating mist to spritz on your face throughout the flight can keep your skin moisturized and refreshed. It’s a small act of self-care that can make you feel much better.

5. Monitor Your Hydration Levels

Pay attention to signs of dehydration, such as dry mouth, headache, dizziness, or dark urine. If you notice any of these symptoms, increase your water intake immediately. Your body gives you these signals because it needs more hydration.

6. Stay Away from Salty Snacks

Salty foods can increase dehydration, so try to avoid salty snacks like pretzels and chips during your flight. Instead, opt for healthier snacks like fresh fruits, nuts, or yogurt. These not only help with hydration but also provide essential nutrients for your body.

7. Set Reminders to Drink Water

It’s easy to get caught up in movies, work, or sleep and forget to drink water. Setting a reminder on your phone or watch to take a sip every 30 minutes can help you stay on track. This simple habit can significantly impact your hydration levels.

Reminder…

I’m here to support you in maintaining your health and well-being during your travels. Staying hydrated while flying doesn’t have to be challenging. By following these compassionate and practical tips, you can maintain your hydration levels, feel more comfortable, and arrive at your destination refreshed and ready to go. Safe travels, and remember to take care of yourself!
